Tenerife has developed good connectivity through excellent transport and communications infrastructures, thanks to the boost provided by its leading position as a tourist destination.
Tenerife has developed excellent, modern, and distinctive communications infrastructure and data connectivity, with access to unique resources including one of the most powerful supercomputers in Spain, the Supercomputer Teide HPC (High Performance Computer), a key component of the ALiX project; a TIER III+ data center; high-capacity submarine cables connecting the island with Europe and West Africa; and the world’s first neutral submarine cable landing station, which serves as a connection point for six submarine cables linking Tenerife with Europe and Africa, and will soon connect with Latin America.
Tenerife also has excellent maritime connectivity (Ports of Tenerife), through the Canary Islands’ network of commercial ports, which forms part of Spain’s port system—Europe’s second-largest in container traffic and eleventh worldwide.
It is a key stopover between Europe, America, and Africa, and a strategic hub for ship supply and repair in the Mid-Atlantic.
16.4 million passengers passed through the island’s airports in 2022, connecting Tenerife with 30 countries and reaching 140 destinations across Spain, the rest of Europe, Africa, and America. Additionally, more than 144,500 flight operations were carried out, and air cargo traffic reached 14,095 tonnes.
Located near the island’s main tourist areas. It is served by 51 airlines offering 115 destinations in 27 countries, with 227 routes, both domestic and international.
Located almost five kilometers from the city center of the capital and one kilometer from one of the main population hubs, La Laguna. It is served by 8 airlines reaching 25 destinations in 3 countries, with most of its operations being primarily domestic routes.
