Tenerife Island Government
The Tenerife Island Government is an administrative entity unique to the Canary Islands. It is entrusted with its own governing powers over the island of Tenerife, and its highest representative is the President. The capital of the Canary Islands is shared between the cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Parliament and Headquarters of the government Delegation
The government of the archipelago is headed by the President of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. The presidency alternates between the two provinces in each legislative term, with the Vice President based in a different location from the President. The Parliament is located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, while the headquarters of the Government Delegation is in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In addition, there is a Subdelegation of the Government in each of the two cities. There is also a balance between the two capitals in terms of the location of ministries and public institutions.
Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands
The Island Council of Tenerife, like the other island councils of the Canary Islands, has a series of its own powers set out in the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands, as well as a number of powers delegated by other territorial administrative bodies.
Consultative Council of the Canary Islands
In the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna is the headquarters of the Consultative Council of the Canary Islands, which is the highest body exercising this function in the archipelago.
